What does a doula actually do during labor?
A doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support. This can look like comfort measures (breathing, massage, positioning), encouragement, and helping you understand your options so you feel confident and supported throughout birth.
How is a doula different from a midwife or doctor?
Midwives and doctors are responsible for your medical care and the safety of you and your baby. A doula does not perform medical tasks—instead, she focuses on you: offering advocacy, comfort, and personalized support to help make your birth experience as positive as possible.
Do doulas only support unmedicated births?
Not at all. Whether you’re planning an unmedicated birth, an epidural, or a cesarean, doulas provide encouragement and comfort. We support your choices and help you feel informed, calm, and cared for in any setting.
